Monologue Prep in 2 Acts
Recommended at least a month before your audition. Two 45 minute sessions that focus on preparation and working the monologue.
ACT 1
To begin monologue coaching, I expect you to come in with at least 4 monologues from a published play, preferably two light (comedic) and two dark (serious), typed out and double spaced or one of the above and a song. It doesn't have to be memorized but be familiar with the text. If possible bring the play in, sometimes it is necessary to add in lines from the play or find a better cut. (I believe the key to a successful audition starts with picking the right piece and I believe that is a very personal decision. You can find my tips on how to do so here.)
At the first meeting we will narrow down your monologue choice to two contrasting monologues, or whatever you need for the **coming audition. We will then scan the text to find the right action, scene partner and work on personalization and audition slate.
INTERMISSION
Between Act 1 and two I expect you to memorize both monologues, word perfect (every word on the page in the correct order.) It would also be in your best interest to read the play, I will try to do the same.
ACT 2
Act 2 will be scheduled at a later date which depends on how long you need to memorize and read the play. I recommend a week between acts. For Act 2 we will start by having you present your monologues. From there we will work the pieces one at a time, shaping each one vocally and physically. We will then add in your transitions and slate. If possible, bring the outfit you are going to audition in. It is important to know any movement restrictions you might have before you audition.
Cost: $110 due at time of first lesson, payable by check or cash. If you wish to use a credit card, we can arrange a payment via paypal.com.
Optional Dress Rehearsal: If you want to meet up for one last rehearsal before the big audition you can add on the Dress Rehearsal session for a discounted, $30.
**If you need a song for your audition: I do not play the piano but we can work the text of the song and use a recorded accompaniment to rehearse.
